There are three things that are important for you to grow in God, first pray often, second read the Holy Bible every day, and third get involved in a local church with other Bible believing Christians. But remember to focus on Jesus Christ not on any one else, everyone else in this life will let you down sometimes, but when you focus on Jesus you have stability because He will never let you down. Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for He has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. (Hebrews 13:5-6)
Prayer is talking to God, prayer is a way of leaving your problems with Him to take care of so you can have peace and hope and joy. Remember to begin a prayer with thanksgiving tell God something you are thankful for, this pleases Him and takes you into His presence. It is impossible to be thankful and be depressed. Be worried for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
The Holy Bible continues to be the best selling book of all time. It is God's written communication with man. Through knowing what the Bible says you know who God is, and you learn to recognize His voice. Everything should be judged by if it lines up with what the Bible says. Also faith comes by hearing the word of God, so your faith and confidence grows as you learn more of the Bible. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (1 Peter 2:2) As newborn babies, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Remember to keep your focus on Jesus Christ always, He wrote the book on your destiny, He is your example of how to be and who to be not anyone else on earth. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)
When you come to Jesus Christ you allow Him to begin a work in you and He will finish it. Being confident of this very thing, that he which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (Philippians 1:6). Jesus will never leave you. For he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. (Hebrews 13:5-6)
If you commit a sin and you feel a separation from God repent and confess it to Him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1John 1:9) To repent means to turn away from sin and turn to the Lord. When you are praying to the Lord ask Him to reveal sins in your life to you, if there are any He will bring them to your mind so you can confess them and be forgiven.
Be sure and read the message about God's grace. You must learn how to keep your spiritual eyes focused on Jesus. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. (1st Chronicles 16:10-11)
The most important thing you can do to grow in your relationship with God is to love Him. That means to make knowing God and being close to God the greatest desire of your heart. This is why the greatest commandment that God has given you is to love Him with all your heart. Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. (Matthew 22:37-38)

Discovering God is like seeing Him as a majestic and grand mountain. The further you walk away from Him, the smaller He seems. The closer you walk towards Him, the bigger you realize the true Him. As a mountain always remains in its place and in its grandeur, so does God. As we draw nearer to Him, one step at a time, we discover more of His fullness and greatness.
Jeremiah 9:24
Let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 9:24)
